Οπως όλοι γνωρίζουμε τα όρκ είναι οι αγαπημένοι εχθροί καθε ήρωα που σέβεται τον εαυτό του. Σε δεκάδες βιβλία έχουν αναλάβει τον άχαρο ρόλο του δειλού νταή που τρέχει να φύγει, του αδυσόπυτου βαρβάρου, του πολέμαρχου, του ηλίθιου κτήνους κ.α., ενώ αποτελούν αναπόσπαστο μέλος του στρατού του κακού βασιλιά/μάγου/πολέμαρχου κ.α. Κύρια χαρακτηριστικά τους είναι η χαμηλή νοημοσύνη, η θυριώδης δύναμη και η βαρβαρότητα. Τί γίνεται όμως όταν τα όρκ αναλάβουν τον ρόλο του ήρωα;

Οποιος έχει απορία μπορεί να διαβάσει την τριλογία του Stan Nicholls με τίτλο "Orcs", η οποία αποτελείται απο τα εξής βιβλία: "Bodyguard of lightning", "Legion of thunder" και το "Warriors of the tempest".

Queen of the Orcs Trilogy

My agent believes that writers’ proposals should describe their books in one sentence. This is the one that launched Queen of the Orcs: “A young woman, enslaved to serve the king’s orc army, discovers the orcs’ nobility and leads them in revolt.” The story evolved during its creation into a struggle more epic than a simple revolt, but the original concept still remains at its core. I had two goals when I wrote this trilogy. First, I wanted its central character to be a woman who is resourceful and compassionate and who strives to solve her problems without resorting to violence. I use the word “strives” because she lives in a world that often forces her to fight. When her back’s against the wall, she doesn’t shrink from defending herself and those close to her. My second goal was to portray orcs as sympathetic characters. This idea runs counter to most fantasy writing. Usually orcs are the epitome of evil—a bloodthirsty race with no redeeming qualities. To explain why they are viewed this way, I imagined their position as similar to that of Native Americans in the nineteenth century. My orcs are a defeated race. As such, their conquerors malign them. The orcs buy a measure of peace through fighting in human armies. There, they are feared and exploited. Dar, the book’s heroine, initially fears that the orcs will eat her. As a young peasant woman, she’s a second-class citizen in a world dominated by men. Dar leads a hard life and it becomes much harder after she’s conscripted into the army. Branded on her forehead so she can never leave, she’s sent to an orc regiment. Although orcs do the fighting, men also serve in the regiment. Dar is encouraged to learn this, but she quickly finds that the men prey upon the branded women. Trapped and desperate, Dar embarks on a risky plan. Although the orcs terrify her, she tries to learn their language in hope of gaining some advantage over her oppressors. When Dar begins to understand the orcs and their culture, she is drawn to the destiny that will unfold in the course of the trilogy.

Are you a Bush-hating Liberal? Then buy this book!

1/5

Let me start by saying that I love everything about this book, and that it is better than the last book, except for it's blatantly obvious political bias. I read and reviewed his last book, which I also loved except for the short and seemingly poor ending. And I say seemingly because he fixed that bad ending by turning things completely around in this book. He fixed what I believed to be his biggest problem, but he added in his disgusting political bias. And he did it in a very obvious fashion, even going as far as to say that the invading forces invaded because they believed orcs to possess, and I quote, "weapons of magical destruction". Stan, you're so pathetic.

I'm not going to waste my time writing out a lengthy and descriptive review, I'm just going to give it to you straight. I'm not going to argue with you because I know how futile it is to argue with a liberal.

Here is basically what Stan is saying by this book:

Wolverines + Resistance = Middle Eastern Terrorists

Middle Eastern Terrorists = Freedom fighters

Terrorists commit suicide, terrorists = Honorable warriors such as Samurai (orcs commit sepuku)

Peczan = America

America = Evil occupying force

Jennesta = Bush? (not so obvious, but I'm pretty sure)

If you are liberal (ignorant) and agree with his views then by all means read the book.

The sad part about all this is that Stan has equated honorable warriors to suicide bombing terrorists. Terrorists do not fight honorably. Yes, they commit suicide like Samurai, which is probably why Stan and other liberals liken them to each other, but the truth is terrorists fight like dirty rats. Terrorists aren't like Samurai in any way whatsoever. There is no honor in the way terrorists fight. And for Stan to liken terrorists to the Orcs is just plain disgusting, and I cannot continue reading.

Goodbye Wolverines, goodbye Vixens
