Δωρεάν προγράμματα για συγγραφείς

Πρόσφατα ανακάλυψα το Raven, έναν ακόμα μινιμαλιστικό επεξεργαστή κειμένου. Τα καλά του στοιχεία:

• Είναι ικανοποιητικά portable, μιας και τρέχει σε Windows, Linux και Mac.
• Είναι δωρεάν — συγκεκριμένα, ελεύθερο και ανοιχτό λογισμικό.
• Είναι καλαίσθητο το περιβάλλον συγγραφής.
• Αποθηκεύει τη δουλειά σας σε JSON και XML. Αυτό σημαίνει ότι είναι φιλικότερο προς diff viewers απ' ό,τι διάφορα binary formats (όπως π.χ. του Microsoft Word).

Σωστό, αν και τεχνικά αυτό ισχύει σχεδόν για κάθε πακέτο ελεύθερου λογισμικού — όλες οι σχετικές άδειες που ξέρω έχουν μία παράγραφο στην οποία λένε ότι δε δίνουν «κανενός είδους εγγύηση», «ούτε καν εγγύηση ότι το πρόγραμμα κάνει για τη δουλειά για την οποία το χρησιμοποιείς», ότι «οι δημιουργοί δεν ευθύνονται για καμιά ζημιά που μπορεί να προκληθεί από τη χρήση του προγράμματος», κλπ. Πρακτικά, το Raven υπάρχει εδώ και 3 χρόνια και φαίνεται να δουλεύει.

Κάποια από τα δωρεάν προγράμματα συνεχίζουν μέχρι και σήμερα να αναπτύσσονται από τους δημιουργούς τους σε κάποια άλλα  έχει διακοπή η ανάπτυξη τους και άλλα πάλι έχουν γίνει εμπορικά (τα προγράμματα που έγιναν εμπορικά αφαιρέθηκαν από την λίστα).

Τα συγκεκριμένα προγράμματα δίνουν την δυνατότητα στον συγγραφέα να γράφει σε πλήρη οθόνη συνήθως έχουν σκούρο φόντο (στα περισσότερα προγράμματα δίνετε η δυνατότητα στον χρήστη να αλλάξει χρώμα φόντου και γραμματοσειράς καθώς και μέγεθος κειμένου) ώστε να μην αποσπάτε η προσοχή του συγγραφέα από αναδυόμενα παράθυρα στην επιφάνεια εργασίας όπως του Windows Live Messenger, Antivirus κ.α.

Χρήσιμες πληροφορίες για ιστορικό και φάντασι μυθιστόρημα.

Δύο παρατηρήσεις μόνο. Ο κρίνος της Λίλης ακόμα είναι εθνικό σύμβολο στη Γαλλία και τα λιοντάρια των Πλανταγενετ ήταν συνήθως χρυσά σε κόκκινο φόντο.

Ο θυρεός με τους Διόσκουρους είναι καθαρά Ελληνικός ο θυρεός του Γκλύξμπουργκ - Χόλνσταιν είναι ίδιο σχήμα αλλά διαφορετικό περιεχόμενο.

Σε αρκετά από τα παρακάτω προγράμματα, οι δημιουργοί τους, μέχρι και σήμερα συνεχίζουν να τα αναπτύσσουν (βελτιώνουν). Σε άλλα πάλι, η ανάπτυξη τους έχει διακοπή εδώ και αρκετά χρόνια. Δοκίμασα όλα τα παρακάτω προγράμματα και είδα ότι λειτουργούν σε περιβάλλον Windows 10. Όμως, δεν τα έχω δοκιμάσει διεξοδικά (πλην του FocusWriter), ώστε να γνωρίζω αν εμφανίζουν μετά από μακροχρόνια χρήση κάποιο πρόβλημα.

Joplin

MyTetra

MyTetra is a full-featured, open source, cross-platform note manager (PIM-manager) used to collect and accumulate various kinds of information. All entries (notes, articles) are organized in a tree structure, as well as supplied with keywords tags that allow you to quickly find the right entries. Links between records, attachments, encryption, detailed search, synchronization, copying from the browser, one of the best visual WYSIWYG text editors - all this is in the PIM-manager MyTetra. It is powerful program for data memorization and structuring notes.

 

Distraction-Free Writing Tools

FocusWriter

FocusWriter is a simple, distraction-free writing environment. It utilizes a hide-away interface that you access by moving your mouse to the edges of the screen, allowing the program to have a familiar look and feel to it while still getting out of the way so that you can immerse yourself in your work. It’s available for Linux and Windows, and has been translated into many different languages.

 

Writemonkey 3

Writemonkey 3 is the new incarnation of the original Windows only application that has been around since 2006. 12 years old and still kicking. It is quite possible that WM was the first text editor for writers with full markdown support. It was also among first distraction free editors out there. Writemonkey 2 will still be available for download, but won't be developed any further.

WM3 is available for all three major OS platforms - Windows, OSX and Linux and this is something that couldn't be done with the old code base. Also, hi-res displays are becoming popular and WM2, without unreasonable makeover, just isn't ready for that.

 

Q10

Q10 is a simple but powerful text editor designed and built with writers in mind.

 

TextRoom

It is a free (as in freedom and free beer) full screen text editor developed with especially writers in mind.

 

Dark Room

Dark Room is a full screen, distraction free, writing environment. Unlike standard word processors that focus on features, Dark Room is just about you and your text.

Basically, Dark Room is a clone of the original WriteRoom that is an OS X (tiger) exclusive application. It is a child of necessity, as there were no viable alternatives in Windows to produce the same behavior. Sure, you can kind of emulate the behavior by jumping through a bunch of hoops in Word/Writer, but it isn’t the same. Also, you can do something similar in emacs, but who wants to learn a bunch of obscure keyboard shortcuts?

The goal of the project is to capture the essence of WriteRoom, while keeping it simple and just as free.

Καλησπέρα κι από εμένα.

Εδώ και αρκετό καιρό χρησιμοποιώ το Visual Studio Code (https://code.visualstudio.com/) από MS. Εκτός από τις λειτουργίες προγραμματισμού που παρέχει, υποστηρίζει και το πρότυπο Markdown, που χρησιμοποιεί το - επι πληρωμή - iA Writer, καθώς και πολλά άλλα free προγράμματα για συγγραφή, όπως το ghostwriter. 

Αυτό που το κάνει αρκετά δυνατό εργαλείο συγγραφής - τουλάχιστον για εμένα - είναι το διαχωρισμός της οθόνης που έχει το πρόγραμμα, μιας και μπορείς να έχεις ανοιχτά 2 ή και περισσότερα αρχεία, κάτι που πολλές φορές είναι από επιθυμιτό ως και αναγκαίο.

Για παράδειγμα, στη κεντρική οθόνη, έχεις το κυρίως κείμενο που συγγράφεις και παράλληλα να κρατάς σημειώσεις, να ελέγχεις για στοιχεία που έχεις συλλέξει από την έρευνα που έχεις κάνει, το στήσιμο των χαρακτήρων, ότιδιποτε είναι χρήσιμο για την σωστή ολοκλήρωση του έργου.
