Netflix has officially announced production on the long-awaited second season of The Witcher has finally been completed over a year since its started filming. The announcement came with the release of a new video, featuring showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as she gives a behind-the-scenes look at the series’ 158 filming days across 15 locations with 89 cast members and over 1000 crew members. Also featuring our first footage of the main cast, you can check out the video in the player above! The production wrap comes after The Witcher Season 2 suffered a number of production delays that were mainly caused by the ongoing pandemic. This included new cast member Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones) along with a few crew members testing positive for COVID-19 last year, as well as lead star Henry Cavill sustaining a minor leg injury during an on-set assault course. Based on the best-selling fantasy series, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Geralt of Rivia, a solitary monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together. The series stars Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Princess Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, MyAnna Buring as Tissaia, and Joey Batey as Jaskier. Season 2 will be introducing a lot of new characters which will be portrayed by Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Kim Bodnia (Killing Eve), Paul Bullion (Peaky Blinders), Yasen Atour (Young Wallender), Agnes Bjorn, Basil Eidenbenz (Fast and Furious 9), Aisha Fabienne Ross (The Danish Girl), Mecia Simson (Britain and Ireland’s Next Top Model) and more. The Witcher series for Netflix is based on the stories and novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. Schmidt Hissrich serves as executive producer and showrunner for The Witcher. Sean Daniel is set to executive produce under the Sean Daniel Company with his partner Jason Brown. Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko of Platige Image are also executive producers as well. The series is scheduled to make its return sometime this year.
