I float

The currents are wild

I swim.

 

I swam

And I stood

Amidst the waves.

 

I stood…

 

And I,

I opened my mouth.

 

And the currents were afraid.

 

I screamed,

And the waves bowed.

 

I roared,

And the tides fell.

 

I sang,

Along with the thunderbirds.

 

Beautiful,

Elegant thunderbirds…

 

I waved goodbye,

And the sailors waved back.

 

I smiled,

And I wept.

 

And the laughter

Married the tear.

 

I was born,

In my mourning.

 

I was born,

In my joy.

 

And I will die,

Still.

 

And when I dried…

 

I opened my mouth,

 

And drank the sea.
