Nihilio
Είδος: τρόμος Bία; Ναι Σεξ; Όχι Αριθμός Λέξεων: 800 Αυτοτελής; Ναι Σχόλια: Εμπνευσμένο από το τραγούδι At the gallows end των Candlemass ----------------- I can see the sun setting. The day is ending. The last day of my life. The sky is taking the color of a rose, as the sun is bound to meet the horizon. I surely have done a lot of things to deserve the gallows, but not what I am accused of. Not the murder of Martina Smith. Stealing the train was indeed a bad idea. Smiling Johnny claimed it would've been an easy job. Hit the train and run hell bent for leather across the borders. We believed him and I am the last surviving. And that won't last for long. The priest across the cell asks me to repent for my sins. I laugh loudly at him. I am one of the damned, father, there is no salvation for me. I know this. She told me so. The pastor tries harder. I know the hypocrite you are, father, I can see your sins forming a halo around your head. A black, filthy halo of greed and lust. I know what you do to the kids of the orphanage. I spit in your face, your cross, your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The train was either a trap or very bad luck. We had ambushed the rails and stopped it. Charlie and Johnny were to board the store wagon and rob the safe. They got to the wagon and then there were shooting. Charlie got out staggering, blood running from his mouth. Johnny never did so. Tomas and I took cover and waited for the shooters to come out. But we never thought they would come from the train's roof. Tomas never made it, while I got to my horse and run like hell with a bullet in my left shoulder. The deputy comes to take the priest away. I am to die in half an hour. Guess I should have seen it coming all along. But still, there is a bitter taste in my mouth. Maybe it is not death I am afraid of, but what will come next. She told me what it would be. My trek through the desert was made in a semi-conscious state. My horse carried my body to one of the many towns by the borders, Hell's Grave its name. I had fainted by then, and she was the one to take care of me. She had found me and took me in. She nursed my wound, fed me and hid me from the rangers. The bell is ringing and they have come for me. The next time the bell tolls a noose will be tied tight around my neck. This is the fate of people like me. The sheriff pushes me hard. He has every reason to: It was his mistress I killed. They take me to the Town Square. Most of the residents have gathered. A hanging in a small town is a rare occasion and they don't want to miss it. To my disappointment there is no gallows. Just a tree, with a noose tied on one of its branches and a chair underneath it. I deserved something better. It is my death goddammit! Her name was Martina. Martina Smith. The town's harlot. She had taken care of me, bedded me, made me a happy man. It was a night after our lovemaking she told me about as. "We are the damned," she said. "When we die, a new life shall begin. We shall feast in sin my love. I've been waiting for you a long long time and you came." Then I noticed the knife in her hand. "Let us die together and live together forevermore." I pushed her away, got to my gun and shot her. She died with a wide smile. She knew what would follow. The trial was a sham; my death determined the moment Martina found me. Standing on the chair, the noose around my neck, I look at the crowd. I see faces full of hate, fear, wonder. Yes, you hillbillies, I am a murderer and I will be hanged. Fear me! Hate me! Marvel at my death! Then my eyes fall on her. She is dressed in black, a widow's veil covering her face. But I know it is she. It is Martina. She has come to witness me demise. My rebirth. It is like nobody else is here, just the two of us. Somebody I no longer see kicks the chair. I am falling. The noose tightens around my neck. My neck won't break. Bastards, they want it the hard way. "See you soon," I whisper to Martina, my eyes staring at her, the smile under the veil visible to me. The air leaves me, my lungs burn, my vision dims. At the gallows end I was reborn.

Nihilio

Nihilio
Edited October 12, 2005 by Nihilio
tec-goblin
