It's funny you asked Mark Ball to do this, because that's how I started my response. This isn't supposed to be definitive, but I bashed this out in like 5 minutes just on what I could remember off hand. All this stuff does get attention.

1: Minority Report

2: The Diamond Age

3: Minority Report

4: Demolition Man/

5: Neuromancer/Johnny Mnemonic

6: The Windup Girl/Heavy Weather

7: Darwin's Radio

8: Any book dealing with invisibility. But it's important to understand that your reference to metamaterials in no way deals with visibile light. So far, it's only been done with sound and microwaves, and only in very specific settings. There is no evidence that metamaterials will be able to be used for visable light.

9: The Windup Girl

10: uh...The Matrix? The whole body is a battery in that. But anything dealing with implanted circuits I assume also since I never saw any reference to 'just' Johnny or Molly in William Gibson's books needing external power, and that's just one example.

11: Wait what? This has been done left and right. The entirety of Die Hard 4 is based on this premise.

12: I don't know if I can really regard this as a topic, since in all science fiction, medical technology really seems pretty miraculous. If it's not gene therapy, it's nanobots. Does it really make a difference?
